A Star is Born???? Okay, I admit it. I’m nervous. Just a tad. Tonight I’ll be making my singing debut. Well, I should say my soloist singing debut—my non-Karaoke soloist singing debut. Don’t know if I’ve mentioned it before, but I’ve been singing with my church choir for about eight months now. Tonight we’re having a variety show at the church, and somehow, I was enlisted into singing in an ensemble group—a song called “Lighten Up” by Karen Drucker. It’s a jazzy number about self-esteem—and involves pesky little things like wrinkles and cellulite—something of which I’m sure none of you can identify with. J My solo is the second verse—about heading to a party full of rich people discussing their yachts and mansions—making me feel “unworthy, small and ashamed.” There are five of us women (of a certain age) singing this song, and we’ve been rehearsing like mad for the past few weeks. We’ll be dressed in black with red feather boas. The whole point of the song is for us to love ourselves just the way we are and to remind us that “real beauty comes from deep inside.” A very positive message! We had our dress rehearsal on Tuesday night, and I don’t mind saying we blew our audience (the rest of the choir and technicians) away. So…I’m absolutely positive we’re going to do just that to the real audience tonight. And Frank has promised he’s going to video our song. With any luck—once it meets my approval—I might put the video up on YouTube. I’ll let you know. Well, my daughter, Leah, is 30 weeks pregnant—only ten more to go until I’m a “Nana.” J That’s the name I’ve decided to give myself. I think Nana Carole sounds much better than Grandma Carole, don’t you? Leah and Zac have decided not to find out the sex of the baby. They want to be surprised on Delivery Day. J But just between you and me, I have a feeling it’s going to be a girl. In fact, I recently had a dream about a little girl with dark curly hair who loved swimming. That’s got to mean something, right? Congratulations to Sandy Haber of Boxborough, MA, my August website winner. Stop by my website and enter for this month’s contest. I found a used copy of EAST OF THE SUN, WEST OF THE MOON at my local bookstore, and I’ll be giving that away this month, along with an original jewelry set from Beautiful Evening Beads. www.CaroleBellacera.com.
